Every few weeks, the same claim reappears on social media: that Grand Theft Auto VI will not be released on November 19, 2026, and that Rockstar will delay it to 2027. It is worth tracking down where this comes from, because the origin says a lot about its reliability.
What the official source says
The release date is still November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no statement from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive modifying it.
On the contrary: the CEO of Take-Two has expressed “absolute confidence” that the game will arrive in November. And there is an indirect but compelling sign: pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026, on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, with pre-loading set for November 12. A company planning to move the date does not keep advance billing open with a published pre-load schedule.
Where the rumor comes from
The rumor of the delay to 2027 originated on 4Chan, a forum where anyone can post anonymously, without registration or identity verification.
This is not a minor detail. It means that:
- There is no identifiable source to attribute the information to.
- There is no way to verify if the person who wrote it has access to internal information.
- There is no track record of reliability, because there is no author to track.
An anonymous message on a forum is not a leak: it is a text that someone wrote. It might turn out to be true by chance, but it provides no reason to believe it.
Why it spreads anyway
The rumor catches on because it fits with a story that is true: GTA VI has already been delayed twice. From fall 2025 it went to May 2026, and from there to November 2026. With that track record, a third delay sounds plausible.
But just because something sounds plausible doesn’t make it true. The two previous delays were announced by Rockstar through official statements, not an anonymous forum. That is how every date change has been communicated so far, and it is reasonable to expect a third one to be communicated the same way.
What is actually happening at Rockstar
There is a real element that feeds the feeling of instability, and it shouldn’t be confused with the rumor: Rockstar fired about 40 employees citing leaks through Discord. Those affected argue that it was a retaliation for their union activity, more than 200 workers from Rockstar North signed a letter of support, and the Rockstar Game Workers Union has been formed, backed by the British union IWGB.
It is a serious labor dispute with its own news trajectory. But it is not a delay announcement, and mixing the two is exactly what makes the hoax circulate. In fact, some industry analysts argue that the game’s development is already essentially complete.
How to tell a rumor from a leak
We always apply the same criteria, and here it works well as an example:
- Is there an identifiable source? An anonymous forum, no.
- Does it have a verifiable track record? Without an author, there is no track record.
- Is it supported by contrasting media? The media outlets that have covered it have done so talking about the rumor, not confirming it.
- Does it contradict anything recent and official? Yes, it contradicts Take-Two.
Four negative answers. That is why we classify it as an unverified rumor and not as information.
Conclusion
Today there is no well-founded reason to think that GTA VI is delayed to 2027. The official date remains, pre-orders are still open, and the company has publicly reiterated its confidence.
If Rockstar were to change the date, we would know from a statement from them, like the two previous times. And we would update this article immediately.
