GTA VI will not be available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has explicitly confirmed this, clearing up a doubt that had been circulating for a long time among those waiting to access the game through Microsoft’s subscription at no additional cost.
What exactly has been confirmed
Take-Two’s confirmation is clear: GTA VI will not arrive on either Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus in its launch window, which starts on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whoever wants to play it from day one will have to buy it, either in its standard edition for €79.99 or in the Ultimate edition for €99.99.
And what about GTA+? It’s not part of Game Pass either
A recurring confusion among players arises around GTA+, Rockstar Games’ own monthly subscription service. Take-Two has confirmed that GTA+ operates completely independently and is not included in Xbox Game Pass (not even in its Game Pass Ultimate tier) or PlayStation Plus.
GTA+ is a separate membership that offers monthly benefits in GTA Online and rotating access to certain classic titles from the Rockstar catalog, but having an Xbox Game Pass subscription does not grant access to GTA+, nor will it allow you to play GTA VI at its premiere. If in the future Rockstar decided to link GTA VI rewards to its own subscription, these will require their own independent monthly fee.
Why Rockstar does not include it in subscriptions
The reason has to do with the business model that Rockstar has maintained with Grand Theft Auto V for over a decade. GTA V has been one of the most profitable products in entertainment history thanks to the combination of base game sales and recurring revenue from GTA Online through microtransactions. Putting a release of this magnitude into a subscription from day one would reduce direct sales revenue at a time when demand—and therefore the price the market is willing to pay—is at its highest.
This pattern is not exclusive to Rockstar: few major multiplatform releases from studios with a strong PlayStation presence enter Game Pass on the same day of their premiere, precisely because it reduces the direct purchase incentive.
Could it arrive later?
We do not have any confirmation about a future incorporation into Game Pass, nor any official indication that completely rules it out. GTA V has entered the Game Pass catalog in different periods over the years, usually quite some time after its original launch, so there is a precedent that Rockstar has used the service as a long-term showcase. But applying that pattern to GTA VI without an official confirmation would be speculating, and it is not something we do in this article.
Alternatives to save at launch
If the goal is to reduce the initial outlay, there are some real options:
- Compare prices between stores. The official price is the same in PlayStation and Xbox digital stores (€79.99 standard / €99.99 Ultimate), but some physical stores have offered occasional discounts on the reference price.
- Start with the standard edition. Rockstar has confirmed that you can upgrade from the standard edition to the Ultimate at any time by paying the €20 difference, so you don’t need to pay the full price of the Ultimate from day one if you’re not sure you want it.
- Take advantage of the Vintage Vice City Pack. Any digital purchase made before November 20, 2026 includes this bonus pack at no additional cost, regardless of the edition chosen.
What we will do if Take-Two changes its stance
If at any point the arrival of GTA VI to Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, or any other subscription service is officially confirmed, we will update this article with the exact date and conditions.
