One of the most repeated complaints during the last decade about Grand Theft Auto V is that, despite how beautiful Los Santos is, it looks like a cardboard set. You could barely enter a couple of clothing stores, the Ammu-Nation and your safehouse. Everything else was fake locked doors.
According to the leaked development videos of GTA VI, Rockstar Games has decided to put an end to the fake doors. The strongest rumor from insiders is that between 60% and 70% of the buildings in Vice City will have fully explorable interiors.
The revolution of “Dynamic Heists”
In Trailer 1 we saw Lucia and Jason robbing a liquor store, but this will go much further than programmed missions.
Imagine walking down Ocean Drive, seeing a three-story motel, entering through the back door without any loading time (thanks to next-generation SSDs), picking the lock on room 204 and stealing the valuables from an NPC who is sleeping. This is not science fiction, it is technology that Rockstar already tested on a small scale in Red Dead Redemption 2, where you could rob random cabins in the woods. In GTA 6, they want to take it to the scale of a modern metropolis.
More places to hide from the police
The police wanted system in GTA 6 promises to be relentless (the police will memorize your car’s license plate and your physical description). Having thousands of accessible interiors changes the rules of the game:
- You will be able to flee from a chase by going into a shopping mall and losing yourself in the crowd.
- Enter apartment blocks, go up the stairs to the roof, and jump to the building next door to throw off the helicopters.
- Take refuge in laundromats, underground nightclubs or mechanic shops in the alleys of Little Haiti.
[!WARNING] Rendering the interior of dozens of stores in real time through the glass while driving at 200 km/h down the street is going to destroy older graphics cards. Don’t be left behind and check what Graphics Card and CPU you need in our interactive tool.
If this rumor is confirmed, Vice City will not only be the largest map created by Rockstar, but the most dense and interactive virtual world in the history of video games. Where will you run to first when the FBI is chasing you?
