The GTA 6 Extended Look premiered on Netflix: what it showed and why there

Rockstar premiered the GTA VI Extended Look on Netflix on August 27, 2026: 26 minutes captured on PS5. We review what it showed and what choosing that channel means.

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar Games did something unusual with its most important promotional material: it premiered the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look on Netflix, and not on its YouTube channel as it had been doing with every trailer.

The premiere details

  • Platform: Netflix.
  • Date: August 27, 2026.
  • Duration: approximately 26 minutes.
  • Footage origin: captured directly on PlayStation 5.

That last line is the most important one. This is not a trailer edited with cinematics: it is footage of the game running on the console it will be played on, which is exactly what the community had been asking for for years.

What it showed

The footage follows Jason and Lucia through Leonida and shows, among other things:

  • Combat and gunfights with cover and close-range engagements.
  • Store robberies and escapes from anti-drug raids.
  • Vehicle theft, including lock picking and breaking windows.
  • Police chases with the new wanted system.
  • Character switching between the two protagonists.
  • Interaction with pedestrians and side activities.
  • Daily life in the open world, beyond the action.

It is, altogether, the most complete demonstration of the game’s real state that Rockstar has offered to date.

Why Netflix and not YouTube

Rockstar has not formally explained the decision, so what follows is interpretation and should be taken as such.

Publishing on Netflix implies a different context than YouTube. The material is consumed without recommendations around it, without comments and without fragmentation: the viewer watches the entire 26 minutes on a dedicated screen, normally a television, instead of a video within an infinite list.

For a long presentation with narrative weight, that environment protects the experience much better than a player surrounded by reactions and competing thumbnails. It also fits with Take-Two’s interest in associating the brand with a larger-format audiovisual consumption.

None of these reasons is confirmed by Rockstar. What is confirmed is the fact: it premiered there.

The context of the leaks

The premiere came after a complicated period. Rockstar spoke out about the gameplay leaks that had previously circulated, describing it as “heartbreaking” for its team to see unfinished material published without their control, and regretting having taken so long to share official gameplay.

Seen this way, the Extended Look also works as a response: extensive, official material under conditions defined by the studio, as opposed to leaked videos of dubious quality and context.

What it did not show

It is also worth noting the silences, because they mark what remains unknown:

  • There was no mention of the PC version, neither logo nor reference in the credits.
  • The multiplayer component was not detailed.
  • The download size and storage requirements were not announced.
  • The list of radio stations and the complete soundtrack were not published.

You can read our detailed analysis of everything that appears in the footage in the Extended Look breakdown, or review the evolution of the published material in the GTA 6 trailers guide.
