GTA 6 map: official size, the six regions of Leonida and what's in each

Leonida, GTA VI's state, is roughly twice the size of GTA V's map according to Rockstar. Its six official regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.

Leonida, the state where GTA VI takes place, is a fictional version of Florida. Rockstar has confirmed its six regions on the game’s official website and, in Game Informer’s September 2026 cover story, finally gave an idea of its size: roughly twice GTA V’s map.

Size: roughly twice GTA V

Rockstar describes Leonida as about twice the size of GTA V’s map and, above all, denser: more buildings with interiors and more things to interact with than in any previous GTA. There is no official figure in square kilometres.

Before that, the community had made its own estimates from the trailers. How they were worked out and how close they came is explained by Return to Vice in the GTA 6 map size.

The six regions of Leonida

RegionWhat it isReal-world inspiration
Vice CityThe big city: beaches, skyscrapers, clubs and neighbourhoodsMiami
Leonida KeysThe southern archipelago, linked by bridges over the seaFlorida Keys
GrassriversSwamps and mangroves, with airboats and alligatorsEverglades
Port GellhornIndustrial port city on the west coastFlorida’s Gulf Coast
AmbrosiaFarming and industrial area by the big lakeLake Okeechobee area
Mount KalagaMountain and forest national park in the northNorth Florida (with invented relief)

Vice City

Leonida’s big city and the heart of the game. The trailers have shown its art deco seafront, packed beaches, financial district, marinas and nightlife. It is far bigger than the 2002 Vice City, an island you could cross in a few minutes.

Leonida Keys

A chain of southern islands linked by long viaducts over the sea, with small towns, marinas and waters for diving.

Grassrivers

The swamps, inspired by the Everglades. You get around by airboat, and they are full of wildlife: the alligator is almost Leonida’s symbol.

Port Gellhorn

A poorer, working-class city on the west coast, with docks, industry and roadside motels: a contrast with Vice City’s luxury.

Ambrosia

The inland area by the lake, agricultural and industrial.

Mount Kalaga

The only real high ground on the map: a mountain and forest national park in the north. Real Florida is flat, so Rockstar has taken a liberty here.

Wildlife and weather

Leonida has more than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of birds, and localized, persistent weather with tropical storms and hurricanes: it can rain in one region while it is sunny in another. We summarise it all in what Game Informer revealed about Leonida.

To explore it in depth

For each area in detail, Return to Vice has location pages for Leonida covering every place seen in the trailers. And to see how the world moves in play, see our Extended Look recap.
